Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 July 2026
Automonie helps you understand and manage your money. To do that we handle personal and financial information, and we take that responsibility seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the control you have over it.
1. Who we are
Automonie ("we", "us", "our") provides a personal finance management application available on the web and on Android. For any privacy question, or to exercise any right described below, contact us at tobe@automonie.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address and phone number when you register.
- Financial information you enter: transactions, budgets, savings goals, bills, debts and subscriptions.
- Bank statements you upload, CSV, Excel or PDF files you choose to import, and the transactions extracted from them.
- Support messages: anything you send us when you ask for help.
Information from a linked bank account
If you choose to connect a bank account, we use a licensed third-party open-banking provider (currently Mono) to retrieve your transaction history and account details. This access is read-only: it cannot be used to move money.
We never see, receive or store your bank login credentials. You enter them directly with your bank through the provider's secure widget. Connecting a bank account is entirely optional, the app works without it.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data, IP address, device and browser type, and app version, used for security, fraud prevention and diagnostics.
- Usage data: which features are used, to help us improve the product.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the service, categorising transactions, calculating budgets, tracking goals, and generating insights.
- To operate your wallet and process payments you initiate, through licensed payment partners.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure, including two-step verification.
- To send service messages such as budget alerts, bill reminders and security notices.
- To meet legal, regulatory and anti-fraud obligations.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your financial data with advertisers.
4. Who we share information with
We share only what is necessary, and only with:
- Open-banking providers (e.g. Mono), to retrieve transactions from a bank account you have linked.
- Payment providers: to fund your wallet, process withdrawals, and complete bill or airtime payments you request.
- Infrastructure providers: hosting, database and email delivery services that operate the app.
- Authorities: where we are required to by law, regulation or valid legal process.
Some of these providers process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens, we take steps to ensure the transfer is lawful and that the data remains protected to a comparable standard.
5. How we protect your information
- All traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
- Passwords are stored only as salted one-way hashes, they are never stored in readable form and cannot be recovered by us or by anyone else.
- Optional two-step email verification, and app lock with a PIN or fingerprint on mobile.
- Bank access is read-only and can be revoked by you at any time.
- Full card numbers are never stored on our servers.
No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but we work continuously to protect your information and to limit what we collect in the first place.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your information for as long as your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete your personal and financial data, except where we are required to retain certain records to meet legal, tax or anti-fraud obligations. Disconnecting a bank account stops any further data being retrieved immediately.
7. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (and equivalent laws that may apply to you), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct information that is wrong or incomplete, most of this you can edit yourself in the app.
- Delete your account and the data associated with it.
- Withdraw consent, including disconnecting a linked bank account at any time.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Port your data, you can export your transactions from the app.
- Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you believe your rights have been breached.
To exercise any of these, email tobe@automonie.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.
8. Children
Automonie is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
We use only what is necessary to keep you signed in and to keep the service secure and reliable. We do not use advertising trackers.
